[ 1 ] Posted by on June 6, 2011

Apple iOSWe all know how popular the iPhone is amongst consumers around the world, however it certainly takes a magnificant smartphone to exceed RIM’s handsets, Blackberry’s, in popularity. According to comScore, Apple’s  iOS, which is available on the iPhone, iPad and iPod has surpassed RIM’s Blackberry platform as the second most popular Smartphone platform in the US now sitting behind Google’s Android platform, which is available on tens of handsets.

This news needn’t apply to the whole world, as comScores metrics here are based on the US and in their calculations, Apple took the mantle of number #2 Smartphone platform in the US with a market share of 26 percent, with RIM being pushed right back to 25.7 percent (0.3% difference). On Apple’s recent overtaking, comScore said;

“Apple jumped to the #4 position with 8.3 percent share of mobile subscribers (up 1.3 percentage points), while RIM rounded out the top five with 8.2 percent share,”

    Ya I don’t really know what RIM and Blackberry are thinking.  The OS has become subpar to Android and Apple.  Pretty soon both Android and Apple will catch up on the business user end leaving RIM out in the cold.  They definitely need a different game plan than what they are currently doing if they want to stay competitive.
