In case there were any doubters out there surrounding whether the iPhone 4S was a desirable smartphone with it aesthetically not being a large update over the iPhone 4, your doubt can now be thrown in the bin, because Apple pre-orders for the handset hit over one million in their first 24 hours, smashing the iPhone 4′s benchmark of 600,000.

“We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S,” Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said in a statement a short while ago announcing the feat. “The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do.”

The iPhone 4S whilst not an upgrade over the iPhone 4 aesthetically brings with it the snappy dual-core A5 processor as seen in the iPad 2, and brand new camera architecture for users who use their phone a lot to point and shoot.
