So you like your games both strategic and cute do you? Well i’d say you were spoilt for great games to choose from (Angry Birds, Tiny Wings) on Apple’s App Store, and one of the latest of these is Nano Panda which the makers say is a ‘sweet & fluffy original puzzle game with creative physics challenges’. So is it actually any good, and does it cut the mustard?

Review

If you asked me to think of one app which reminds me of Nano Panda it would be Cut The Rope. Essentially in game you have to use your ‘Nanopanda’s’ magnetic powers to solve a lot of physics challenges and kill off all atoms that get in your way, whilst also trying to avoid spikes (which kill you) and taking advantage of moving angled walls. All of this sounds simple yet complicated in text, however when in game the learning curve to master your Panda’s is minimal.

When you get round to playing Nano Panda for the first time you’ll pick up the controls quickly and immediately warm to the cartoony feel the game has. It does have to be said that the idea of Panda’s being shrunken down to an atomic level to battle against other atom’s is unique, however the game itself isn’t completely unique in terms of playing in-game, and if you have played other physics based games you’ll feel right at home.

Unit9 (the company who made Nano Panda) have done a stellar job at making their unique selling point to the game, which is magnetism, highly usable. Starting out with one panda is a simple affair, however when you juggle two pandas on to your screen which warp and bend and attract each other things really start to heat up. To date, i’ve had 6 Nano Panda’s at a time flying around at one time, however the timing of when you release your Nano pandas is what this game is all about.

Nano Panda has a good amount of levels to keep you going and is unique enough to keep you entertained and the soundtrack is quite good too. Once you get past the first few levels things start to get harder and you’ll eventually get to a level where it seems impossible to kill your atoms; for this, I recommend you take a break and come back afresh.

Wrap Up

Overall Nano Panda on the iPhone is a great game and comes highly recommended by myself. There is a free Lite version of this app for those who would like to try before they buy, and at the full price $0.99 Nano Panda will make a respectable addition to your mammoth game collection.
