BoxWave Capacitive iPad Stylus Review

BoxWave Stylus Review

Following on from our best iPad stylus feature not so long back I decided to opt for one myself and purchase a capacitive stylus to go along with my iPad 2. Namely, I wanted something with a design that would compliment my iPad 2′s brushed aluminium back and came across the BoxWave Capacitive iPad Stylus, which I picked up for around £10 through the Google shopping channel. I picked this particular product due to a) it has nothing but good reviews and b) it has a rubber tip out of the box. Read on to find out whether this iPad 2 Stylus is worth it’s weight.

Review: Design, Build

Okay, so I know this is only a capacitive iPad pen, however i’m the sort of guy who likes stuff to look good and the BoxWave is particularly nice both to look at and hold. Being silver aluminium, the pen itself feels of a high quality with the majority of the weight being found to the top, where the clothing clip is, which helps make the stylus feel like a real pen. Like pretty much all capacitive pens on the market right now, the BoxWave features a security clip so you can push the pen in to your iPad’s 3.5mm headphone jack and never lose it.

Boxwave Stylus Tip

Colour wise the BoxWave Capacitive iPad Stylus is available in Jet Black, Metallic Silver, Crimson Red, or Lunar Blue color however I got mine in silver, which as stated is lovely and compliments the iPad 2 perfectly indeed.

The tip of the pen is where all the magic naturally lies, and one of the key features this stylus ships with is a rounded rubber tip, meaning it glides effortlessness across all displays. Although this product is called an ‘iPad Stylus’ it will in fact work universally across every single capacitive touch screen display on the market right now, so if you don’t have an iPad but own a Galaxy Tab, you need not worry. Overall i’d say this is the nicest feeling stylus you can buy for the price you’ll be paying.

In use, practicability

As stated above this stylus ships with a pen clip allowing you to keep it on your shirt just like your conventional Parker, however thankfully you won’t have to worry about ink spillages any more. When holding the pen, it never tires your hand because it is, quite honestly, incredibly light; holding a cheap plastic biro in one hand and the stylus in the other for example would confuse the heck out of you if you closed your eyes.

Moving on to stylus responsiveness and the BoxWave is pretty good. It has never once not registered on my iPad 2 or our test iPhone 4′s display, and using drawing apps the stylus is very accurate indeed. If you have never used a stylus before you’ll feel right at home with this one. Some more advanced styluses feature detachable tips so you can use rubber or fabric ones, however the BoxWave doesn’t have this feature, meaning unfortunately that you’re stuck with the round one.

Pricing

I picked up my BoxWave for just over £10 GBP via the Google shopping channel and you can too, here.

Verdict

Overall I class my investment of this stylus a sound one. It does have to be said that incorporating detachable tips would pump up the price a little bit, however i’d be happy paying the premium for this feature. With this in mind, the BoxWave has fantastic build quality and is very responsive. Overall i’d highly recommend this stylus.

Rating: ★★★★★★★★ (8/10)

Looks like a fantastic stylus! It’ll definitely go with my Advent Vega, is the rubber tip that responsive / accurate though?
