Flip Video MinoHD: An opinion
We have had video recorders in our phone for the best part of what, four years? And through all that time they have always been somewhat lousy. You see, all cameras in all phones have a tiny lense – and you should know that when it comes down to it megapixels have absoloutely no effect on the quality of a camera phone. The only thing that could distinguish a camera phone and an utterly brilliant camera phone is the lense – and so far nobody has bothered.
So I guess you should look elsewhere for utterly outstanding portable video recording quality – bring on the Flip Video MinoHD!
The Flip Video MinoHd’s party piece is the ability to record video in 720P – Which by the way is a good resolution for its size. Coming to its size this little gadget is incredibly slim and doesn’t achieve this through a loss of functionality either, all the controls are well placed and holding the Flip is a delight in itself – it is not the lightest gadget but that is a good thing as unlike other portable video players this is not a toy.
It has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery which holds its juice well and can also upload videos directly to Myspace and YouTube. Do you own a PC or MAC? That doesn’t matter either as the Flip is compatable with both

Its not all good though, for a start the rechargeable batter is utterly non-replaceable and for some bizarre reason the device also does not house a SD/MMC expansion slot.
The Flip is currently retailing at around £125 – £175 (any more than this and you are getting robbed) which is actually pretty pricey. With all the other portable video players out there I suppose the only reason for buying one of these at the high price it is will be down to its USP of shooting HD.
If I were a rating site I would give it 6 out of 10. Sure it is good, and by no means a gimmick – however no SD/MMC slot? What did they design this for? Anybody in the market for this or anything similar wants to be able to expand their memory surely.
I won’t personally be buying one however I am sure sales will shoot through the roof at Christmas
. I wouldn’t complain if I got one as a gift from somebody though haha! *hint hint*.
