Do Smartphone consumers get bored of operating systems?

I’ve always been extremely curious as to what makes an iPhone user switch to Android and an Android user to switch to an iPhone. Similarly, this applies to other brands too such as Blackberry owners, and today I had a brain wave; what if mobile consumers got bored of an operating system every year or so, shoving them in the direction of another smartphone manufacturer?
This brain wave came after I read this bit of news from IT Pro Portal, which explains that Blackberry owners and Android users are getting ready to switch to the iPhone 5. In the news, research suggests that in the US, Canada and Mexico 41% of Android mobile users are ready to switch to the iPhone 5 within 6 months of its release. This bit of news intrigued me for a very good reason – with the recent announcement of Samsung bringing out the Galaxy S II HD and HTC bringing out the Sensation XE (two very soon to be amazing smartphones), why is the percentage of smartphone users wanting to switch so high when the smartphones offered to them are so very good, and the iPhone 5′s hardware will probably be less / the same power wise?
Is it because smartphone consumers get bored of operating systems?
Even more amazing is the research surrounding Blackberry customers. A whopping 52 percent of those surveyed were enthusiastic about switching to the iPhone 5, and a whole 28 percent of them would switch even if Apple did minor upgrade just like they did with the 3GS.
What you get with an iPhone
Let’s get this one out of the way; despite my huge surprise at the percentage of Blackberry customers eager to switch to the iPhone 5, nobody can justify why they shouldn’t (in my eyes). Unlike Android smartphone’s and also Apple’s iPhone, Blackberry users are extremely limited in comparison when you look at apps, which in turn are proving to be the main features people purchase smartphone’s for – Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Bebo, Myspace, Reddit, Digg, Plants vs Zombies, Robotek HD – all of these apps are instantly available for download on the iPhone and Android handsets. They are not all available on a Blackberry. This I feel is one very reason that Blackberry users may feel they are missing out with Apple’s admittedly amazing App Store, and why they are bored of Blackberry.
Moving on to Android, and are customers finally getting bored of all the open source talk? Do customers genuinely want a very simple to use operating system commonly dubbed as nothing but an app launcher? Well apparently so. As stated above, 41% of Android users want to switch to an iPhone 5 if it is a significant upgrade over the iPhone 4, leading us to presume that yet again one of the features so evidently evolving in smartphones (gaming) is going to be better supported when the upgraded hardware of the iPhone 5 meets the unprecedented support for Apple’s app store.
What are your thoughts?

I got an iPhone my lass an Android phone, we both tend to switch phones sometimes just for a change. I have no preference over an OS so to speak. but rather I’d rather keep options open.
