HTC Smart: The other Nexus

[ 0 ] Posted by on January 12, 2010

With all the hype thats been circulating around the Nexus One, like a swarm of paparazzi when Christian Bale hit his fiancee, it is only natural that you may have missed an upcoming HTC handset revealed at CES 2010.

Specification wise the handset will ship with the Brew® Mobile Platform OS, adapted with HTC Sense, pack a 300MHz processor, 256 MB of Ram and MicroSD Card slot. Other features include a 3.2 megapixel camera which has a flash and autofocus, bluetooth (naturally) and a 2.8-inch TFT-LCD touch-sensitive screen with QVGA resolution.

This phone sounds really promising, the OS – Brew Mobile Platform, is a free OS that was announced over a week ago < and so it is pretty new. It was developed by Qualcomm and looks pretty neat, with sliding functions and the customisation of Android.

On top of that, behind the scenes Brew isn’t that system heavy – and so the rather understated 300MHz processor shouldn’t have trouble pulling its weight around from side to side, like Android does sometimes.

It will also vastly reduce the cost of this mobile phone, in fact, it will vastly reduce the amount of any mobile phone which runs it – and as it requires a less powerful processor, further costs can be cut again.

Furthermore, and whilst were on the subject of Brew – in the midst of all this OS talk between techies and enthusiasts, there really is no room for another OS < that is atleast not a free one. Expect to see a lot more of this OS within phones soon, as the fact it is free will appeal to a lot of manufacturers. Perhaps then it is the right time for Nokia to be making the transition of Symbian over from closed to open source. Heres some piccies of the Smart for you;

I like the design of this phone, its cute but masculine at the same time. From what I have seen, the build looks very good and i’ll bet it’ll feel quite weighty given its glass screen. Hopefully, and I hope to god i’m right, this could be the first mass consumer market product from HTC, which could have students flocking into shops to buy it for its low price.
