HTC Desire: The Premium non Google Nexus
The Nexus One was made by HTC and then re-marketed as Googles phone -The HTC Desire, which is clearly the result of an inspired HTC, is their own custom take on the Nexus One – all wrapped up in a gorgeous metallic frame.
Internally, you’ll find a 1 GHz Snapdragon chipset, 512MB of ROM 576MB of RAM and a 1400 mAh battery. On the outside, the desire has a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, it runs Android 2.1 and for those who are a fan of HTC Sense UI, popular on the Hero, you’ll be very happy – because the Desire incorporates this too.
With a 3.7 inch OLED display this handset could be considered a little bit large. But with the amount of people wanting power and functionaility, nay portability, this mobile phone should really take off.
Don’t start to think that is is just a Nexus Wannabee though because there are some cosmetic changes that really stand out. The trackball which was on the Nexus, for example, has been replaced with an optical option. People who have had the privilege of having tested this phone (I will be within the next 3 days) have pointed out that the touch sensitive buttons on the front of the Desire, which are a change from the tactile ones on the Hero, are a bit fiddly. This will most probably be down to preference though.
Rather than consider this a Nexus-esque mobile phone, I would rather think of it as an upgrade to the Hero. With Sense UI, a more powerful processor and bigger screen to increase functionality, the Desire answers for many HTC Hero owners what they wanted – apart from 480×854 resolution. The lip on the phone, although it has been toned down angle wise, is still there though. A love or hate cosmetic feature which people either think is ugly, or functional. Technology Blogged? We think it is functional as it fits the contour of our tech hungry faces nicely.
Right – i’ll leave you with a gallery of images of this truly awesome mobile phone. Another mobile phone to check out is the HTC legend, which is very much like the Hero, but is absolutely gorgeous.

A truly amazing phone and I can imagine this is going to be selling like hot cakes! I have just pre-ordered mine, which should be arriving during the first week of April. Seems like a long way off yet but well worth the wait if you ask me.

@SJ Jones – Man you’re a lucky one. My contract does not end for over 7 months
. It is a damn shame, as I would have been one of those hot cakes. Sold!
