Intel tablet chip

If you’ve been wondering exactly where Intel have been during the rather huge growth of smartphones and tablets over the past 3 – 4 years, the answer is simple. They have been nowhere. It’s apt news to us then that ‘reliable sources’ have contacted Digitimes and stated that Intel are developing tablet chips as we speak, with the aim of silencing ARM-architecture based processors.

“The launch of new tablet processors from Intel aims to take on ARM’s CPUs, especially in terms of thermal design power (TDP) and performance.” Digitimes sources said.

Time-scale wise, Intel are said to release 2nm Saltwell, 22nm Silvermont and 14nm Airmont chipsets over the course of the next three years, but this is still a rumour until things are confirmed.
