LG Optimus Q2 qwerty slider packs dual-core, may hit Europe

LG’s Optimus line of smartphones are sort of in the middle when it comes to craving the latest gadgets. Whilst they are perfectly servicable in specification terms, and whilst they sport near enough the same versions of Android as the competition, they aren’t completely up to scratch aesthetically and the skin LG slaps on to Android is anything but pretty. In spite of this, LG is bringing another smartphone to market soon, and it’s called the Optimus Q2 (and no, it doesn’t stand for quarter).
The LG Optimus Q2 will be competing head to head with a fair few smartphones upon its launch and in a bid to make it stand out, LG will be packing a slide out qwerty keyboard in to the handset, a 4-inch WVGA IPS-based LCD touchscreen with a 700-nit brightness, Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread and the dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 3D which will be clocked at 1.2GHz. It is not yet clear whether this smartphone will be available in Europe during it’s life, or any real world evidence to tell LG that consumers are gagging for it, so we’ll leave you to think about whether it’ll hit us. We do however know that the smartphone is supposedly going to be available from this weekend in Korea, and LG is bigging it up stating that it will be 2.5mm thinner than it’s nearest competitor.
The main competitor to the soon to be upon up Optimus Q2 will be the HTC Desire Z, which for the past 6 months now has been close to the only option when looking for a decent qwerty totting smartphone. Let’s just hope LG can make some tasty changes to their UI, because currently it lags behind in looks and speed compared to HTC’s Sense UI and even Samsung’s TouchWiz.
