Microsoft may be prepping a hybrid smartphone device, patent suggests
Microsoft has recently filed an application patent in the US for a hybrid tablet device, sort of the like the ASUS Padfone, bringing suggestions that Microsoft may be building up to creating and launching a handset that can be docked within a tablet. This news is backed up by the patent itself which states that the device “comprises a first device with a first display and a second device with a second display”.
On the patent, Microsoft was keen to state the purpose of it, and further explained “Mobile phone displays have increased in size to the point where they can now consume almost the entire viewing surface of a phone. To increase the size of displays any further would require an increase in the size of the phones themselves”. The application patent itself only emerged a few days ago however was filed all the way back in June, and the hybrid device itself is very interesting due to it appearing to be nowhere near as intertwinedas the ASUS Padfone which was unveiled in May.
