Motorola Droid RAZR Unveiled, 7.1mm Kevlar form meets dual-core goodness

Motorola has unveiled their Motorola Droid RAZR handset, featuring an ultra slim form factor, rugged Kevlar-backed build and dual-core goodness. Coverage by Jakk Ogden.
Some people may say this is getting stupid now, but personally, I am all for extreme thinness in smartphones, especially considering the amount of time they spend in our pockets. Enter Motorola then, who have blitzed NEC’s Medias 7.7mm handset with the staggering form factor their new handset has, measuring in at a size 0 7.1mm. Much to the shock of us, Motorola have also named this handset the RAZR, a brand it has brought back from the history books and a brand which brought them massive success in 2004 with their flip phones.
As for what’s lying within this form factor, Motorola have crammed enough processor power in to the Droid RAZR to keep Android running very smoothly indeed. Out of the box you’ll find a TI OMAP 4430 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM for it to play happy families with, and interestingly the handset features Kevlar backing, diamond cut aluminium and Gorilla Glass across its 4.3 inch qHD Super AMOLED display to keep it in shape for the years to come.
Overall how does this handset stack up against the competition then? Well speed wise the 1.2GHz dual-core processor will be near enough on par with the Galaxy SII, the build materials used are as premium as Apple’s, and the thinnes of this handset makes every other smartphone in the world today look fat. A pretty tempting package then, no? The only thing drawing me back personally is the way it looks, as it doesn’t exactly float my boat. Or fill my cup. Nor does it make me sleep at night. I’ll let you decide whether it’s good looking or not though, because personal taste is after all subjective.
[Update: Release date wise you are looking at November in the US and price wise around $299 in the US on contract. As for a Motorola Droid RAZR UK release date you are looking at some time next month, but whether it will be called the Droid RAZR is another question].

Really really really like this handset.
Nice isn’t it? Although the front is a little bit ‘bezely’ I admire Motorola for the form factor here.
