The Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710 are Nokia’s latest smartphones announced on the 26th of October. Both of these handsets feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 processor, a 3.7″ display, Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and more. One question remains though; Nokia Lumia 800 vs Lumia 710, which is best for you?

Form factor

The way a smartphone feels in your hand, and the way it catches peoples eye, are key buying factors when it comes to snapping up a smartphone in-store.

The Nokia Lumia 800 is Nokia’s flagship smartphone, and features a wrap around single sheet polycarbonate form which makes it incredibly durable. What’s more, the 3.7″ ClearBlack AMOLED display is a wonder to behold, being wrapped with Gorilla glass.

The Nokia Lumia 720 is Nokia’s cheaper alternative to the 800, and so features a multiple part construction featuring high quality plastics. Interestingly, this handset features snap off back covers, just like older generation pre-smart mobile handsets (3310, anyone?).

Storage

Internal flash storage has been getting more and more advanced in recent years, and with the price of it coming down, manufacturers are able to offer more storage for less money.

The Lumia 800 makes do with 16GB of on board memory, allowing you to store a vast amount of media. Interestingly the Lumia 800 doesn’t have a micro-SD card slot, however with more and more data going cloud, we reckon this will be fine.

The Lumia 710 makes do with 8GB of on board memory, and just like the 800 there is no micro-SD card slot to expand it. Essentially, the 800 is twice the handset when it comes to storage.

Price

The Nokia Lumia 800 costs $585 in the US and pre-orders are under way for it right now.

The Nokia Lumia 710 is set to cost £235 in the UK, before VAT, or $375 in the US.

Verdict

These are two different handsets for two different budgets, with both having their unique quirky appeal over the other. Want some hardcore specifications in an equally gorgeous package? Then the Lumia 800 is our choice. On a budget and want the majority of the power of the Lumia 800, but willing to sacrifice form? Then the 710 would be our choice. All in all, both smartphones are great, and we wouldn’t say no to either of them.
