Nokia’s Windows handsets to launch in Europe first, elsewhere later
Nokia is a Finnish company which just so happens to be in Europe, and so the latest news that Nokia’s first ever Windows Phone 7 handsets (see here for early mock ups) will hit Europe first isn’t all that surprising. Expected to hit 6 European contries first, Nokia’s next generation handsets will run Windows Phone 7 and ditch Symbian, and according to Nokia VP Victor Saeijs they will hit France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and the UK firstly but will make their way overseas eventually.
As Engadget has reported already, Nokia has oddly decided that it’s mother country, Finland, won’t be among the first European contries to get the handsets and joins other countries such as the US on the waiting list for an official launch. So far we’re unclear as to why Nokia has decided to do this, however one thing is for certain, and that is that Nokia better get their game on if they want to compete in the smartphone market soon; hopefully they’ll finally be able to exploit all the great hardware they pack in to handsets with an operating system full of potential.
