Angry Birds App Review

[ 1 ] Posted by on July 2, 2010

Official TB verdict: 10/10

Overview

Angry Birds is the number one selling iPhone game app ever created. It is also without a doubt the most addictive game for your iPhone / iPod Touch and well worth the small 59p which you will pay for it (you can also get the Lite version free, which comes with 8 great levels just for quick play).

The principle of Angry Birds is to take down numerous blocks of ice, wood or concrete by catapulting birds which churp angrily in to them. Highly addictive and novel, Angry Birds is highly simple to use and suitable for any age group who happens to play on it. Level wise angry birds is second to none and the game itself is updated regularly by its developers, and with star ratings set in to the menu system you will find yourself coming back again and again to try and accomplish all the levels on three stars.

Gameplay

As noted above Angry Birds is the most downloaded paid for game on the Apple app store. This is quite some feat, and one which can not be overlooked – with reasoning or rather justification coming from the gameplay. The process of playing the game is simple, you drag your finger back behind the bird and adjust the height accordingly to hit the target you wish to take down. Whats more, there are several birds to which you will be given for different levels with; Red Ones pushing stuff over, Yellow ones smashing through stuff, Blue ones splitting in to three birds to take down multiple targets, Black ones which explode a few seconds after impact and tear through concrete and White ones which drop bombs at your fingers disposal.

Graphics and SFX

It can be guaranteed that after playing this game for a little while you’ll be churping along with the birds as the sound effects on Angry Birds are, lets say, pretty damn funny. ‘CAAAAAAW’ is my personal favourite. Graphics wise angry birds plays along nicely, with no jerkiness at all and a good use of colour and overlaying graphics. This game is 2D but polished to the max.

Level Choice

Lets cut straight to the numbers: There are 126 standard Angry Birds levels available to you and a full 7 ‘golden egg’ levels to play < which so far have not been entirely done ;) . On a good note though, all the levels are fantastic  and test you to the max in pretty much all cases. For this kind of level choice in any game you should expect to pay at least £1.99 for an app like this, and at 59 p its quite remarkable (this might cover the huge download numbers though).

Verdict

Get it! Angry birds is an immense game with fantastic sound effects, tons of levels – a truly committed bunch of developers and most of all a low price tag. Angry birds quite literally replaces all the games on your iPod – unless you are a true die hard fan of them. If doubtful, then check out the Lite version and have a crack at the eight levels given to you on a plate.
