M9P Review

Following on from our prior review of the MEElectronics CC-51P headphones which featured ceramic housing, the latest set of headphones for review are the M9P’s, which are acclaimed to be one of the best pair of budget headphones money can possibly buy. But are they? Well that’s what we tried to find out as we put these headphones through their paces. It is fair to note that this product isn’t amongst the high end headphones money can buy, however they promise to be good none the less. Read on to see what we thought.

Review: Design, Build

The MEElectronics M9P headphones are a fairly standard affair with the model shipped to us being black, and features strengthened transparent cabling which doesn’t tangle very easily, a feature missing from the more expensive CC-51P’s. Down towards the bottom of the headphones cable you’ll find your 3.5mm headphone jack and just above this a dirt clip to keep your headphones wires close.

The headphones we were shipped included the mic / remote for iPhone compatibility and on this front the build is plastic, although for the price, I didn’t miss the more expensive CC-51P’s metallic housing much. As noted the cable itself is strengthened and has a quality feel to it, and the headphones themselves feature the MEE logo towards the back of them and are labled L & R for left and right.

In the hand the headphones feel pretty good, and the heads themselves are encased in black aluminium for durability. Shipped with the headphones were an ample supply of ear buds (they actually exceed ample as they come with 5) and a carry case (see images) as well as an instruction manual.

Sound quality, practicability

They say sound is a personal opinion and exactly which headphones you should purchase should be based on what you’re after and for me I enjoy my music neutral. I am happy to report that I was pleasantly surprised with MEElelectronic’s crack at sound quality given the RRP of these headphones, and although bass heavy in places, i’d say these headphones were almost on par sound quality wise to Sennheiser CX300′s.

Unlike the more expensive brother to these headphones mid-range isn’t muffled which meant I could listen to a wide variety of music without vocals and bass taking over. A couple of guitar tracks from Santana later and some bars from Lil Wayne earlier, I had an enjoyable experience listening to music through these headphones.

As stated these headphones feature a dirt clip and carry case meaning that transport wise is doesn’t get much better. The cable itself measures in at 1.2m (4 ft).

Pricing

These headphones retail at around £25 online however can be found cheaper (£16 is the best i’ve seen) if you shop around, making them extremely affordable.

Verdict

Unlike the CC-51P’s claims of excellent sound quality these headphones ship on a budget and don’t brag about sound quality, which I think they should, because for the price it doesn’t get much better and you’d be very hard pressed to tell a difference between these £25 headphones and £50 headphones.

Rating: ★★★★★★★★ (8/10)
