Punch-O-Meter iPhone app review

The Punch-O-Meter app reminds of a time when old flash games were in, and you had a go at slapping or spanking monkeys and see how hard you could do it – and the faster you did it, the higher your average was.
Punch-O-Meter works on the same premis, and much to my own delight, works wonderfully (sometimes). The app itself is very light weight and barely takes up a few KB of storage, price wise the app costs £0.59 and also downloads within seconds. What strook me at first glance after initial start up was that there appeared to be a leaderboard to which was very lowly scored ”Yes! I thought as I prepared to punch, top spot is mine” and after hitting 205, and blasting that top score, I was gutted to find out that the leaderboard is just a showcase on your iPod / iPhone and in fact not a constantly updated leaderboard. Gutted.
Moving on I also found that the Punch-O-Meter is highly inacurrate, and favours speed over power – whats more, you can easily make a higher score than your last by actually flicking your wrist at the end of the punch, which adds a little bite. In real life this would be useless, but on the iPhone? Flicking your wrist is highly useful apparently.
All in all the Punch-O-Meter is a gimmick and a novelty, which whilst fun at first loses its fun factor after around 2 minutes off play. If this app was free then it would be a must for any iPhone owner, and even though the price of £0.59 may seem tempting, I wouldn’t recommend it.
