Expensive Gadgets for the Rich Geek

Imagine you’re Bill Gates – but not quite so geeky – and you’ve just pioneered some ground braking PC operating system and now you’re now a millionaire, or even billionaire. So what would you do and where would you go? I know what I would be doing: Internet shopping.

So just to indulge myself – and to rub a little salt in wound – I have compiled a short list of items I think I might buy if I had the money. So here goes, and enjoy!

Molly Skycar

Top of my list is the Moller Sky Car. Not quite on sale yet, this futuristic vehicle looks like something out of The Jetsons. The reason it’s at the top of my list is because in my mind it’s the first step towards owning the flying Delorean from Back to the Future.

When it does come out however it will set you back £324,000 and making a trip to France the equivalent of a two hour dash down the motorway. God, if only I never had to fly on EasyJet again.

Seabreacher

My own personal dolphin boat? Yes please! Just like the Shark vessel Tin-Tin used to find Red Rackham’s treasure, the Seabreacher is able to burst out the water and perform acrobatic stunts just like, well… a dolphin.

Reaching a top speed of 50mph above the surface and an equally impressive 25 below, this personal submersible is GPS enabled, has cameras on the fins – with LCD screens inside – and an onboard iPod dock that is guaranteed to have you rolling up to your next beach party pumping out the tunes. You can pick one up for a respectable £65,000, but not in my lifetime.

Sentryman USB Ballpoint

This luxury designer pen is made from lightweight aluminium and has a USB hidden at the end of the barrel. It has 4 gigabytes of memory meaning you can have two essential items at the tip of your fingers.

There is also a special seal that stops moisture from reaching the electronics, so you don’t have to worry about dropping it in the coffee on those groggy mornings and at £750 it’s one of the more affordable gadgets on my list. I chose it because I’m always forgetting my important files, particularly a CV although once I’m a millionaire hopefully I won’t have need of it anymore. You can pick them up along with some other designer pens from the official dunhill site.

Floating Bed

This blew my mind when I saw it and is my number 4 as a result. The magnetic bed was designed by Dutch artist Janjaap Ruijssenaars and costs a cool 1.2 million Euros so don’t expect to find it at your local mattress store. Also as a word of warning don’t go jumping on the bed with your new diamond encrusted iPhone.

The most expensive PC in the world

Just imagine what new PC games like Battlefield 3 would look like on this beast. Yes that’s all I care about these days. And whilst I was doing a bit of research into putting together a new rig I started wondered what the most expensive PC in the world was and I was pointed towards this thing.

Created by the Japanese government, the Earth Simulator cost $400,000,000 to build making it the most expensive computer ever built – although to me it looks more like walkways in an airport – and was created to simulate possible scenarios that global warming might have on the planet.  Does that mean there are virtual versions of me and you being washed away daily by digital floods?

Which concludes my list. So if you see a flying red car zip by you’ll know I’ve won the lottery. Also, this list is far from complete. If you have any suggestions on what you would buy we would love to hear them below.
