A very short while back Twitter announced that they’re making some changes to their popular site. The changes will increase the site’s overall usability, and the changes will benefit businesses that use the social network enormously. Twitter will allow businesses to have many more options and opportunities to brand themselves. Here are the key changes that Twitter is making that will benefit businesses as they establish their brands on the site:

  • Businesses will have more space on their Twitter profiles to display their logos and taglines. They will also be given the opportunity to place a banner at the top of their Twitter page. The banner can be their company logo or other representation of their company.
  • Companies will have more control over their Tweets. They’ll be able to pick an important Tweet that they always want to have at the top of their page. So, for instance, if a business wants a Tweet about an upcoming sale to appear at the top of their page, they can keep the Tweet there until the end of the sale. The tweet at the top of the page is called a “Promoted Tweet,” and companies are allowed to keep the Promoted Tweet up for as long as they like.
  • Promoted Tweets will allow for expanded views. So, if a business wants to post a video advertisement in their Promoted Tweet, they have the option to do so. The video will actually show up at the top of the Twitter page. This is a revolutionary change, since users were not previously able to post videos on their Twitter page.
  • Some are already predicting that the number of people who use Twitter will dramatically increase this upcoming year. The number of Twitter users has steadily increased every year since the site first came into existence. And the recent usability changes Twitter made to the site are likely to make it even more popular. More users means more people actually visiting the pages of businesses and following them.

Enhanced Twitter pages for businesses will be available to every business, big or small, free of charge. Businesses are already using Twitter to help establish their online brands, and these changes will help them do so even further.
