Nintendo Wii U release date, April 2012

Are you eager to try out first hand Nintendo’s next generation gaming console? Well we finally have a round about release date for the coming soon product, and according to Nintendo, you can expect it after April 2012. The man to thank for this news is Nintendo’s USA boss Reggie Fils-Aime, who revealed the launch window on US TV show Jimmy Fallon while demonstrating the Wii U to spectators. Lets just hope that Nintendo will have a decent array of titles lined up for the launch of the Wii U unlike what the 3DS had (oooh).

Wii U will come with one touch-screen controller, won’t support two

We covered what we know about the Wii U a little while back, and now we know something else. Out of the box, you’ll be getting only one touch-screen controller according to Nintendo themselves, and the Wii U supports just one touch-screen controller per console, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed. Miyamoto went on further to state that he doesn’t fully know whether players will be able to use two touch-screen controllers at a time either, saying that;

“We are doing research about if someone brings their controller to their friends house and they want to play together on Wii U to whether or not something like that would be possible”

What this leads us to presume is that Nintendo don’t fully know their own console yet, although in tests we have seen multiple Wii Plus controllers being used alongside the Wii U controller, meaning multiplayer is still easily achievable.

GAME Staff Urged To Buy Up Tesco 3DS Stocks To Offer Pre-Owned

When the Nintendo 3DS was launched last Friday multiple retailers tried to undercut each other. GAME offered up the console for £219.99 in total, however Tesco trumped this with a sale price of £209.90.

GAME’s answer to this has been revealed by an internal memo which points at encouraging GAME employees to buy up stock from Tesco at the sale price in order to sell in their own stores as pre-owned. Pretty cheeky, huh?

GAME’s internal memo announced to store managers read: “Whilst we are unable to competitively match this offer in terms of a mint price, it offers a great opportunity to gain 3DS consoles and games for your store’s pre-owned stock.”

Each individual GAME store was also authorised to buy up £1049.50 worth of 3DS stock, and the message went on to state: “It has been authorised by the business that members of staff from stores are able to purchase stock from Tesco stores and then trade back in to your store as Preowned stock.” It added: “However this process must not compromise your store’s midnight launch, service to customers or staff.”

Tesco’s Reply

In regards to the above leaked internal memo from GAME, a Tesco spokesperson hit back at the news, stating that ““We always provide Tesco customers with the best value,” and also “We think you could say this is game, set and match”.

Wii’rd: Nintendo see’s half year net loss

For seven years on the trot Nintendo has never made a half year net loss on its product line. This has been down to slick marketing campaigns, highly competitive pricing strategies and appealing to a highly target orientated market. But this year Nintendo has posted a half year net loss, the first time in seven years.

Nintendo brought in ¥2.01 billion ($25 million) in the fiscal first half ending 30 September versus a profit of ¥69.49 billion a year earlier. In addition to the adverse affects suffered under a strong yen, Nintendo’s sales for the first half of its fiscal year were down 35 percent to ¥363.16 billion due to lower demand for its Wii console.

This could be a large reason to why Nintendo has just started marketing their limited edition red console here in the UK in time for Christmas. You have to admit though, that red console does look pretty sweet.

Nintendo’s 3DS landing November?

The highly anticipated gadget lovers wet dream machine the Nintendo 3DS could be with us a whole lot sooner than we initially expected, thanks to a slip up on Twitter from Nintendo accessory manufacturer Keys Factory, which has made a number of extras for the handheld hub. The slip up, which states a date of accessory release, is below;

“On November 20th, the 11 goods I designed for use with the 3DS will go on sale simultaneously. Those of you buying the 3DS, please buy them while you’re at it! This will be officially announced on the homepage eventually, lol. Best regards.”

Nintendo is still as of yet to confirm exactly when their latest addition to the handheld gaming market will be, however the 3D console is expected to land in the Far East first, before hitting the rest of the world before 31 March next year.

Nintendo Zii: The new Wii ?

This morning I got news that Nintendo have filed a trademark for the word ‘Zii’ and this got me all excited. Thousands of thoughts jumped into my head all at once and all of them were of crazy designs and a whole new gaming console concept.

Having already written about the Playstation 4 Concept and XBox space shuttle thing I see myself fit to share this news with you. Could we finally have an official name for the Wii 2?

No is my opinion. The Zii is just a trademarked word at the moment, and in fact Nintendo has also trademarked a bunch of other names that are letters with ii after it. And so the sequal to the Wii could be anything.

They are basically covering their back in quick time knowing that the likes of Technology Blogged and Engadget will write about it (I feel priveledged albeit not worthy to mention us in the same sentence buy hey, who cares? )

So what could the Zii be?

Anything is the simple answer – either just a word like the others trademarked as to stop people gaining words that sound like Wii or an actual product.

I like to think that the Zii could be a new update to the DSi – a n upgradedtouch screen handheld if you like! I think Nintendo have Sony backed firmly against the wall with the PSP Go being a failure so far and so developing a new handheld system seems plausible (in my eyes anyway, and I can see juuuuust fine). Although why do that when their product is in its growth period? Once it starts to decline sure but not yet.

For me the ultimate thing the Zii could turn out to be is a new channel to add to its ongoing TV services. The Zii TV upgrade does sound catchy doesn’t it?

And so with this news I leave you pondering.
