If like us you have been waiting and waiting for a stock Honeycomb Tablet to hit major retailers sometime soon, then this need not concern you. If you jumped straight at the opportunity to bag yourself an Android Tablet PC and you bought a Creative ZiiO though this news is quite good, because the 7-inch tablet is to get an official Froyo update this Friday.

Brand new features which will make their way over to your beloved ZiiO include greater language support, new passcode options, the ability to install apps onto external storage and a new text-to-speech engine. The Creative ZiiO is possibly the best cheap Tablet PC on the market currently, and features a resistive touch-screen (which is responsive despite not being capacitive).

This morning I got news that Nintendo have filed a trademark for the word ‘Zii’ and this got me all excited. Thousands of thoughts jumped into my head all at once and all of them were of crazy designs and a whole new gaming console concept.

Having already written about the Playstation  4 Concept and XBox space shuttle thing I see myself fit to share this news with you. Could we finally have an official name for the Wii 2?

No is my opinion. The Zii is just a trademarked word at the moment, and in fact Nintendo has also trademarked a bunch of other names that are letters with ii after it. And so the sequal to the Wii could be anything.

They are basically covering their back in quick time knowing that the likes of Technology Blogged and Engadget will write about it (I feel priveledged albeit not worthy to mention us in the same sentence buy hey, who cares? )

So what could the Zii be?

Anything is the simple answer – either just a word like the others trademarked as to stop people gaining words that sound like Wii or an actual product.

I like to think that the Zii could be a new update to the DSi – a n upgradedtouch screen handheld if you like! I think Nintendo have Sony backed firmly against the wall with the PSP Go being a failure so far and so developing a new handheld system seems plausible (in my eyes anyway, and I can see juuuuust fine). Although why do that when their product is in its growth period? Once it starts to decline sure but not yet.

For me the ultimate thing the Zii could turn out to be is a new channel to add to its ongoing TV services. The Zii TV upgrade does sound catchy doesn’t it?

And so with this news I leave you pondering.
