Android 2.1 official upgrade for Droid imminent

Motorola have announced that the Motorola Droid is to be upgraded to the latest version of the Android software. The Motorola Droid will be upgraded to the Google Android 2.1 software this week. Sources suggest that the latest update to 2.1, which is to be on the Droid, could have multi-touch capability and bring the web browsing experience a little bit more towards the iPhone masterclass.
On Motorola’s Facebook page, Motorola updated their status and said “We’re happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to Droid will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later”. This comes as no surprise to some as a 2.1 upgrade for the Droid has been widely talked about for a few months now. But, it is safe to say, that HTC Hero owners might be a littl bit miffed at the fact that they – and by ‘they’ I mean millions, are not seeing any further enhancements to their pricey mobile phones.
Could it be that these devices are getting left behind because they are missing some vital hardware components? Or is it because Google wants the only HTC manufactured phone to carry 2.1 to be the Nexus? Or is it just a simple reason, such as HTC can not be arsed? Either way, it would be nice to see other Android powered phones to get the upgrade – albeit necessary if Android manufacturers want to make current handsets futureproof.

I am a HTC Hero owner and am pissed to be honest. There is nothing the Droid can do hardware wise that my Hero can not – there is just no excuse! Grrrrr.
