Apple introduces new Macbook Air models, throws away a whole lot of storage

Last night at Apple’s ‘Back to the Mac’ event Apple introduced their new Macbook Air line – showcasing incredible design, unsurprising price tags and less storage than you can shake a stick at. Of course, we are talking flash storage here, and the base model which will cost you £849 has just 64GB of storage – a number which is too low for a majority of markets.
Also available however (and to the rescue of people who want more storage) are it’s other models which include the 123GB 11 inch model, 13 inch 128GB model and 13 inch 256GB model costing £999, £1,099 and £1,399 respectively. Crafted out of a single clock of aluminium (which all Macbook’s are moving to), Steve Jobs was quoted as saying that he believes all ‘notebooks’ will be like this one day. This needs a little bit of clarification however, as if Steve Jobs means that all notebooks will be overpriced flash state low-storage computers, he’s deadly wrong.
On the plus side to this event though Apple didn’t just use last night’s Back to the Mac bash to out FaceTime for Mac and a pair of stunning new MacBook Airs. There was a sneak peek at OS X Lion too, which Apple says will be landing on Macs from next summer. The Snow Leopard successor takes its cue from the iPad, bringing over a slew of features inspired by iOS and the best-selling slate. The biggest story is undoubtedly the Mac App Store, with Apple attempting to bring some of its App Store wow factor to its desktop offering.
