Apple sues HTC over Smartphone patents

Apple is in the process of suing HTC, claiming that the Taiwanese company, which is increasingly growing in popularity as the consumers first choice for Android powered handsets, is infringing 20 of the iPhones patents relating to hardware. The lawsuit was filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission and the U.S. District Court in Delaware.
In a statement, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said, “We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,” Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, said Tuesday in a statement. “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours”
This latest development in the patent infringement sector is the first time Apple has ever taken up a lawsuit without being prompted to do so by a third party. HTC is, in effect, right at the frontline of Apples anguish at copy cats, and with the Smartphone battle now really heating up – with the HTC Desire soon to hits stores internationally, is this perfect timing? As to lure the public away from HTC which, in recent months, has grown itself in to one of the most reputable Smartphone brands right across the world?
Whats interesting is that Motorola, Palm and Samsung have also created similar phones with a cohesive architecture similar to one another, and so it begs the question – why go at HTC? and furthermore, is Google going to have any say in this?
