Archos 7: The Android Powered MP4 player

There is now a new image which details the specifications and form factor of the new Archos 7 running Android.

Archos is well known for their formidable product lines – from the Archos 9 all the way back to 3 years ago, where, through the huge success of the iPod, they continued to release updates which far surpased certain areas which Apple could not touch – such as sound quality chipsets. But now, Archos seem to be adopting Android – a move which could help Google see some market share in the MP3 player market.

Android is also well known for being an awesome mobile phone OS which, argue if you like, is much nicer to interact with than the iPhone – and, in certain areas, surpasses WebOS. But could these two excellent specimens of modern technology ever live together in harmony? Surely one would presume that great hardware would run a great OS and take the world by storm – me included.

And so now that I have seen an official image of specifications for the Archos 7, which runs a version of Android, I felt obliged to share it with you. And here we are;

Excited? Yeah, me too. For a start, this device will boast awesome sound quality like all their products, and, as far as new features go which could set this away from the excellent Archos 9, it incorporates a 7 inch display, supports MP4, WMV, AVI, FLAC  FLV, and has a whole 8GB of memory. Prices should be around £150, but who knows – this device is still in production.

Other devices that currently run Android range from handheld gaming consoles, microwaves and watches (well, the watch maker claims it does). Expect the Arhcos 7 to have fantastic sound quality, a nice UI and b MAC and PC compatible.
