Asus has apparently sealed the title of second largest tablet PC brand in the world (only behind Apple) after shipping out 400,000 units of its first generation Eee Pad Transformer, just 3 months after it initially came out. In coverage over at Digitimes, the popular technology based website said that “Asustek Computer has become the largest tablet PC brand in the non-Apple tablet PC group with shipments of 400,000 units in the first half of 2011, according to sources from notebook component makers citing figures from notebook ODMs.”

Asus is said to be already working on their second generation Eee Pad, with possible specifications including a Nvidia quad core Tegra 3 processor and Google’s Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Part of the reason to the huge sales of Asus’s tablet offering include being very competitively priced (£379.99 at Comet, for example) and also running Google’s latest version of its Android OS, 3.0 Honeycomb. On top of the second gen Transformer, Asus will also launch an Eee Pad slider next month which will cost up to £600 in the UK and a 7-inch Eee Pad MeMo 3D to compete against 7-inch tablet’s.
