Best Buy fails in UK retail market, may run back to US with tail between legs

It was always going to be interesting to see how a US giant was going to tap in to the UK retail market, and with the marketing power and 50% stake the Carphone Warehouse owns in them, Best Buy had all the boxes ticked for a rather prosperous and bright future. It has now emerged though that this is far from the case, with Pocket Lint now reporting that they are expected to close their 11 Best Buy superstores in the UK, following disappointing performance since they first started opening in 2010.
In a response to Pocket Lint on the 7th, Best Buy stated that “A consultation on the closure of its Best Buy branded stores will start with all Best Buy team members. Best Buy Europe is confident it will be able to redeploy the large majority of those affected within other areas of its business. The intention is to complete the closure of these stores by the end of the calendar year.”
There is better news on the horizon however, after the Sunday Times reported that if they did close down their main stores, it wouldn’t be the whole end of the Best Buy brand in the UK with it looking likely that the company would integrate mini Best Buy’s in to Carphone Warehouse stores.
