China plans Olympics for robots that must look human

[ 1 ] Posted by on February 18, 2010

This is the proposal that china has recently made to hold an Olympic games that humanoid robots can compete in.

The games are going to be held sometime this year, however the organisers have not yet released a date because they are still looking for sponsors.

All the robots who enter must Resemble Humans – this means that they must have two arms and two legs. Wheels are banned form the competition, as it could give some robots an unfair advantage! The organisers are expecting around one hundred universities to enter robots into the games. Humanoid Robots

The only current major competition for the Robotic Olympic games is from RoboGames which also hold sports events for robots. The next RoboGames will take place in California in early April 2010.

There is a huge amount of growth in the robot industry at the moment. Honda’s ASIMO used to be the only major humanoid robot a few years ago, but now Toyota have released a new one which can run at 7km/h, the speed of a small child – much faster than ASIMO.

Get set for the Humanoid Robot 2010 Olympics!y
