Dragon Dictator app sparks new way to text and e-mail using voice recognition

Voice recognition software could spell the end of traditional text speak on mobile phones. An iPhone app allows users to speak the words they wish to send in to their iPhone and then see their text, e-mail message or Tweet instantly on screen before being sent wherever you like.

Using the brand new free Dragon Dictation app is said to be three times faster than typing on a keyboard, whether that be QWERTY or numerical, and 99 percent accurate. The application from the company Nuance has already been hugely succesful  in the US. ‘I’m finding Dragon to be a much faster, more efficient way to spit out e-mail messages, notes, text messages and Twitter updates. It’s really, really cool, said David Pogue of the New York times. ‘This is an amazingly fast, impressively accurate effort’.

It has to be said though that users with a strong accent are to try to tone it down, because the app itself prefers the Queen’s English with a ‘London’ accent.
