DVD market staying level, Blu-Ray market growing

DVD’s revolutionised the way in which consumers could watch films and revolutionised the home cinema experience – that, coupled with the far higher quality than previous technologies such as VHS (remember those), allowed the DVD market to grow so much that currently it is worth $28 billion in the US. Not just that, but smaller businesses and entrepreneurs started to cash in on the DVD market, including companies who allowed you to compare DVD prices and find certain DVD best prices.
Now however Blu-Ray is in, with manufacturers trying their best to get the momentum started. As well as typical advertisements go, manufacturers over a year ago started dishing out free Blu-Ray players to consumers when they bought a new television – trying hard to increase the demand from suppliers and also get word of mouth out there.
Currently, surging sales of high-definition Blu-ray discs have seen the value of the UK home video market surge by 10 per cent year-on-year for the first quarter of 2010, with the total number of Blu-ray disc sales in the UK now standing at a staggering 15.6m.
Blu-ray now accounts for around 20 per cent of any given title’s total sales.

Hmm… I wonder whether DVD will ever die out, as some people still don’t have HD TV or a Blu-Ray player. What do you think Jakk, will Blu-Ray destroy the DVD?

I highly doubt it Chris, DVD’s have set a benchmark for quality affordability now and until Blu-Ray prices drop, people just aint going to buy them as much.
True, but what about all those people who don’t have a blu-ray player or a HD TV, they will not buy them. You are probably right, but you never know!
