In a recent business transaction Facebook has bought up low specification handset app maker Snaptu for a full $70 million. Snaptu are a well known company for their development on low-powered mobile phones that don’t have the power of a smartphone device, meaning that Facebook could be launching very un system heavy apps for lower end mobile phones soon*.

*In January 2011 Snaptu helped develop Facebook’s brand new app which was available to 2,500 brands of feature phones worldwide, covering around 80 per cent of the feature phone market. This recent transaction could mean that Facebook is aiming to cover the extra 20%.
