Google Chrome beats off IE 8, grabs UK top position in Browser preference

Do you remember all that time back when Microsoft got a serious slap on the wrist for throwing Internet Explorer in the faces of consumers who bought a new PC running Windows? Well they were forced to allow consumers a choice when downloading their first browser and now it appears that being unable to monopolize the browser market has had a serious negative effect on Microsoft’s browser mission. Yes, for the first time ever, a different party has surpassed Internet Explorer (version 8, to be exact) to claim the top position within the UK.
This revelation comes from research carried out by Statcounter, who found that whilst in the US IE 8 still holds top position, us UK’ers prefer Google Chrome 15.
“Google announced Chrome for business exactly a year ago and IT administrators appear to have embraced it in a remarkably short time,” commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, StatCounter.
