Google Transparency Report: Censorship, draw your sword

Google has just released Transparency Report, a set of systematic tools which shows exactly which governments, from any country, have asked for information about users or requested Google to censor or take down content in a certain specified time frame.
Shown in the image above, Transparency Report tells us that Google complies readily with governements who want to censor information – and although Google does this, they also point out in the FAQ’s that they only provide information on Transparency Report if a government has requested the same information 30 times. This latest tool from Google will almost certainly find its uses amongst human rights groups, who undoubtedly will create studies about the obstruction of the flow of information and censorship, and it may even make governments a bit wary in their requests for censorship and user information requests.
In other news, Governments worldwide squint at the thought off Google fighting censorship – and hand the c word a weapon, or two.
