HP announce the TouchPad, the tablet of your dreams running WebOS

[ 0 ] Posted by on February 9, 2011

Remember WebOS, that operating system that’s been bogged down by crummy hardware that everyone loves but has been crying out to see on a tablet? Well, it’s happened on the TouchPad, a 9.7 (1024 x 768 screen resolution) inch slate which brings the entire experience gorgeously to the big screen, powered by a glorious dual core 1.2ghz (each core is 1.2 ghz, yeah, this thing is fast), a front facing camera at 1.3mp and stereo speakers powered by Beats audio. The device itself is almost exactly the same size as the iPad, but with little touch slit instead of a dimpled button.

Most of the applications have been optimised for bigger screen retail with the photo’s, email and browser all receiving big boy upgrade treatment, the device will come in both 16gb and 32gb models. Obviously a virtual keyboard is included and all the new palm devices use touch-to-share, a feature which lets you touch two devices together to share a contact, a webpage, whatever you feel like, meaining you can take anything on the go. Did we mention you can answer calls and texts directly from your TouchPad too? If you’ve got a WebOS phone you’ll be able to sync the two and enjoy the continuous client lifestyle yourself.

How much will all this cost you? No idea, and as for date they’ve been nice enough to give us a ballpark “summer” deadline, for everything we missed head over to the official HP page for the TouchPad over here.
