HP buys Palm

HP has just announced that it is to acquire Palm < the mobile phone manufacturer responsible for the hit phone the Palm Pre, for $1.2 billion. The deal is planned to close by July 31, and Current Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein is “expected to remain with the company,” though it has not been said where his future role will lie.
The good news for Palm is that HP sees webOS as a “prized asset,” and they intend to “scale it across multiple connected devices” < which could mean that their next line up of tablets may run webOS. So the future for Palm looks bright and the future for webOS even brighter – which is good news, as the operating system which had bloggers raving last year was not Apple’s or HTC’s, it was non other than Palm’s.
