HP files patent for ‘PalmPad’ trademark, WebOS tablet coming?

After buying Palm HP has been pretty direct when it comes to WebOS tablets, and other devices in the future, and now that the Palm acquisition is complete, it looks like those plans are starting to move forward — the company just filed a trademark application for “PalmPad,” which certainly sounds like a webOS tablet after all other gadget names ending in ‘pad’ tend to be rather tablety.
The new WebOS tablet, previously code-named Hurricane (but now referred to as Palm Pad), could be released by Christmas, an anonymous source inside HP reportedly told Examiner.com (we are skeptic of his/her claims). There is no word on pricing or specs for the new device either, and as the trademark has just been filed for the name ‘Palm Pad’ the anonymous source who contacted the Examiner is probably wrong.

The biggest problem facing another iPad competitor, and one which HP must solve, is the genuine “application gap” between Apple’s iPad and the WebOS platform which, to be fair, is huge. HP and Palm already has some of the big-name application developers contributing to the WebOS platform, including gamemakers like Electronic Arts; applications for social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn; and productivity apps such as Evernote. But Palm’s catalog doesn’t come close to the almost 200,000 applications in Apple’s catalog which users on the iPad revel in.

The Eeepad and Palmpad will have a full on marketing war IMO
I hope its coming because all the others, including the Asus one (i’m glad they are choosing Android btw) look pants. WebOS will be immense on a big screen!
