HP starts final TouchPad production phase, and we have one!

I hope nobody minds me saying that HP (Hewlett Packard) are idiots. Their decision to cap off WebOS, which in my opinion is one of the greatest mobile operating systems ever made, will never be forgotten here and when I heard the news that HP were stopping the production of WebOS devices it made me think; what exactly went wrong? I mean, could it be their dire marketing team? Could it be that their distribution chain was weak? Is it because a combination of the two equals leaking cash flow? Is it because their line of products weren’t good enough? Well it certainly isn’t the last one, because we have bought a TouchPad up, and it’ll be reviewed on Technology Blogged very soon (SPOILER ALERT: we love the TouchPad).

So, then, it would appear that over the next few months your chances of picking up a HP TouchPad are going to get slimmer and slimmer, because the final production run of its supposed-to-be-dead TouchPad has been announced by the company. In the US, you’ll be able to grab a TouchPad for an amazing price of just for $99 for the 16GB model and $149 for the 32 GB model, whilst in the UK we got ours for £99 for the 16GB version (currently sold out).

Pound for pound (money for features), the TouchPad is the single best tablet on the market right now for the price they are asking and if you jump ship, we salute you WebOS patriots.

Short and sweet, and to the point. HP just can’t manage consumers, and I guess it’s safe to say they didn’t know what they had.  The acquisition of Palm wasn’t what most fans wanted,  but HP had tons of cash and well, they were the only contenders, so it was better than letting Palm rot away.

Maybe this response will actually tell HP something.I am amazed at all the people who bash WebOS but never ever tried it.

But such is the way of the internet, no?Well done.  And you didn’t have to bash anyone else to do it!

@copasetic. I always try to keep my writing neat and to the point so thanks for that. Further to your comment, and in my opinion, HP’s decision to cap WebOS is ludicrous, and silly at best. If anything, WebOS is the most enjoyable operating system to use with the only thing letting it down being the app store.

Something tells me that developers are going to shy away from this operating system now for a pretty long time indeed, meaning even if a manufacturer wanted to license it from HP, there is now little room for apps to be developed and for consumers to reap the benefits of owning a WebOS device. It is unfortunate to say this but HP have only cemented further in to my mind that they aren’t up to the task of bringing a competitive OS to market.
