HTC Enters Tablet PC Ring, Offers Up 7 inch 1.5GHz Beast

HTC Flyer Tablet

Well we knew it wouldn’t be long before HTC decided to make itself known within the ever growing Tablet PC Market, and we are pleasantly surprised at the Taiwanese manufacturers first offering of such a device, which will aim to convert would be Galaxy Tab buyers over to the Sense UI side.

The image above is the real deal, and the Tablet or ‘Flyer’ itself has a rather lovely sounding 1024 x 600 resolution 7 inch display (or 177.8 mm in metric), which will make this device (‘slightly’, we’ll get on to this) less portable than the Galaxy Tab, Samsung’s crack at the Tablet PC market. The Flyer will ship in Q2 2011 with Android Gingerbread 2.4 on board. HTC says it’ll be indistinguishable from 2.3 as far the average user is concerned (Android nuts excluded), though we know it won’t be quite as good as the Honeycomb stuff to come later on.

HTC Flyer

Running on top of Android 2.4 will be a customized version of Sense, made just for tablets, which is to be introduced by the company with the Flyer as the major unique selling point over other Tablet’s on the market. HTC’s Sense is one of our favorite manufacturer skins to Android, and we are told that HTC has no plans on getting rid of it, ever.

Feature set wise the HTC Flyer will ship with a 5 megapixel camera on the back paired with a 1.3 megapixel imager up front, a 4000mAh battery rated to last for ‘four hours of continuous video playback’ and a microSD card slot to expand the internal memory should you ever need it. The Tablet itself looks diffeent enough from current offerings on the market, sporting a unibody enclosure and rather thick design compared to the Galaxy Tab. The thickness really comes down to the monster processor running the Flyer, though, because at 1.5GHz it is pretty much as fast as they come.

We’ll keep you up to date with pricing and stuff.
