Intel recalling Sandy Bridge chips after fault found

See that man up there holding a Sandy Bridge Intel chipset that he assumed would make Intel a whole pile of steaming cash? You do? Well it’s not quite going to plan apparently, because Intel are recalling and halting shipments of the chip on the basis of a “silicone fix” being needed.
Apparently the SATA controller is prone to degrading over time and they’ve seen this as a big enough problem to put the entire thing on hold until they get a fix worked up for consumers. So how much will this cost Intel in the long run? $300 million. Ouch.
