Intel Canoe Lake Chip sets new netbook form factor

[ 0 ] Posted by on June 2, 2010

Netbooks have been around for quite a while now and all of them are pretty much the same thickness < they are portable but not very, lets say, slimlined. But now, with thanks to Intel’s truly brilliant architecture team, there is a new chipset  platform which will quite literally change the way the average consumer netbook looks today.

The brand new platform, codenamed ‘Canoe Lake’, allows for netbook designs that are 50 per cent skinnier than those in existence right now. To prove the point, Intel showed off the “world’s thinnest netbook” at Computex. It’s an ubersleek device measuring just 14mm at its thickest point — 5.4mm thinner than the MacBook Air.

The machine in question however will sadly, much to the disapointment of tech enthusiasts, never be released on sale. This new platform will however spark a new era in design for netbooks which all tend to look the same as of late, with companies trying to seperate them through slick branding i.e eee PC’s and funky colours such as Dell offerings.
