Intel Unveils New Tablet PC Processor
In the world of chip architecture and the latest technology Intel have always been at the forefront when it comes to coming up trumps with processors, despite the sort of recent Sandy Bridge recall we covered.
The chip in question is an update to the current Atom processor which currently features within practically all Netbooks and is the first processor unveiled from the new Oak Trail family. The Z670 uses a 45nm process, and is being pushed at tablets rather than smartphones by Intel themselves. Whether or not this chip will be faster than the Tegra 2, and Apple A5, is another question; however it does have to be noted that this particular chip doesn’t make use of two cores, and is a single core CPU clocked at 1.5GHz with 512KB L2 cache, meaning on paper to the average consumer this chip won’t be as fast as the latter.
Expect to see a review or benchmark across the blogosphere shortly.
