Apple’s iPad market share slips a full 20%

The iPads market share slipped 20% in the last quarter of 2010
Following on from our post yesterday regarding the IDC and their Tablet PC and E-reader sales figures for 2010, new research from the IDC suggests that Apple’s iPad market share dropped to 73% in the late quarter of 2010, with the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab playing a key role in this. Before the Galaxy Tabs arrival, for example, Apple’s iPad held a 93 percent share in the Tablet PC market in the third quarter of 2010.

This vast drop of 20% in the last quarter is a sure sign that competition against the iPad is swaying some people over. It will be very interesting to see 2011′s figures for both market share and sales figures late this year, or in 2012, to see if this is going to be a common trend. The IDC has stated that the launch of the iPad 2 could see Apple’s share increase to around the 73% mark again, however with the launch of fully pledged Honeycomb tablets soon, this could go either way.
