Is it a Bird? Is it a Plane? Nope it’s the Xbox 720 Concept

Ah the Xbox. To this day it is dominating the game console market and whilst the PS3 has had its prices dropped this Christmas vendors seem to be advertising the XBox 360 a lot more – I think thats down to pure sales figures which would suggest more people want one over Sony’s offering (and the fact it is somewhat cheaper, although over time this is not the case as you have to pay for XBox Live).

But have you ever wondered how the next generation console will look? Well designer Tai Chiem has an idea for this.

As you can see above inspiration for this design obviously came from a space craft of some sort. Tai Chiem calls it the XBox 720 – and whilst this is a good name I doubt it will be the real thing. This design looks very far-fetched and also completely mind boggling.

Unlike his concept for the Playstation 4 this design appears to be highly un-user friendly. I mean for a start who is going to want an egg shaped flourescent green silver tinted piece of electrical equipment on their table? Not me. And whilst it is a nice idea I think it is too alien for todays techies (no pun intended) .

I think in the future gaming consoles could be download based with games being available on an internet  network primarily – so far this is true as far as demos and small games go (from experience with my PS3).

The PSP Go has done this and it has been unsuccesful. Sony was completely off the mark with the product and forgot completely about the concept of relationship marketing < the process of customer retainment. And so with PSP sales dropping even further to Nintendo’s DS will we see downloadable games? Who knows, I personally like the concept but also love to see all my shiny games next to my television – I suppose it is all down to preferance.

Right! Back to what this post it about – The next gen XBox. Reports suggest there may be a release between mid 2011 and early 2012, which could happen because the report source is Microsoft itself.
