To many motor fans out there the Bugatti Veyron Supersport is the pinnacle of acceleration and top speed for a production road vehicle, however Swedish car maker Koenigsegg has other ideas with their Agera R, which is powered by a mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged 5-litre V8 which produces 1100 bhp and 885 lb. ft of torque. Weighing only 1435kg, the power to weight ratio of the Agera R stands at an immense 779bhp/ ton, making it capable of a 0-60mph time of under 3 seconds and a top speed in excess of 260mph.
To prove the vehicles speed, Koenigsegg has sent of their test runs to the Guinness Book of World Records and the times they boast are truly astonishing. The Agera R on timed runs went from 0-186 mph (0-300 km/h) in just 14.53 seconds and then came to a complete stop just 6.66 seconds later with thanks to immense front and rear brakes. This time is near enough 2 seconds quicker than the Veyron Supersport which gets to 0-186mph in 16.7 seconds. Find below the new world records set by the Koenigsegg Agera R according to Koenigsegg.
0-300 km/h = 14.53 sec
0-200 mph = 17.68 sec
300-0 km/h = 6.66 sec
200-0 mph = 7.28 sec
0-300-0 km/h = 21.19 sec
0-200-0 mph = 24.96 sec
The top figure above, 0-200mph, was of particular interest to the Swedish supercar maker and to give you an idea as to how rapid this car is, the Bugatti Veyron Supersport does it in 22.2 seconds which is 5 seconds behind the Agera R and give or take a whole lotta’ car lengths. Check out the video below to see just how brutal the acceleration is in this car.
Closing note: Before anybody chimes on about luxury, some of the standard equipment the Agera R packs includes a detachable and storable hardtop roof, power windows, satnav system, MP3/USB compatibility, climate control, tire pressure monitoring system and also a complete car cover. If the Agera R does make world records soon, this will be the car to have.
