LG Reveals Its ‘Ultra Resolution’ 84-inch 4K TV
Technology news. LG has taken the cover off the lid of their 84” “ultra-resolution” 4K display that, based on pictures appears to be production ready and will be commercially available to the average consumer. The LCD TV has a native resolution of 3840×2160, thus the “4K” branding. Most home consumer devices don’t output past 1920×1080 (consumer grade PC graphics cards offer a maximum digital resolution of 2560×1600 and that is over DVI, aside from the fact that monitors that offer that resolution are very expensive and not even nearly as widespread as their 1920x1080p counterparts).
The 3D TV also has LG’s Smart TV and Cinema 3D technology built in as well as support for the Magic Motion remote and voice control. The TV uses a Film Pattern Retarder (FPR) screen for its 3D technology as well as passive glasses. This results in a lower resolution (720p as apposed to a full 1080p) while watching 3D films. But the big thing going on here is the fact that 4K resolution video is not commercially available at the present moment. Many big budget films are being filmed in 4K as more and more movie theaters upgrade their projectors to 4K ones. Essentially movies filmed in 4K should be commercially available in a couple of years. LG will be showing of the display at CES 2012 in mid January.
Other information such as the price or release date is currently unavailable. Based on that picture I would say LG is using it’s Shuriken Display technology thus resulting a super thin bezel all around the TV.
