Mac Vs PC: My turn

[ 0 ] Posted by on December 12, 2009

mac-vs-pcThis debate has been going on for years now with both sides of the argument defending their prefered computing system quite literally to the death (the death of their profile, as admin shut them out)- with many forums literally becoming no mans land.

Microsoft fans talk about their PC market dominance and how a % of the world population owns one. Mac fans talk about quality, integrity and experiencing the good life of which there is no return. Both are valid points – from a 21st Century consumer point of view quality is a huge concern and brand awareness is at an all time high. From a business point of view these market share figures speak for themselves and Microsoft should be the clear victor here.

But that is not enough, ohhhhh no! Then we hear people talking about Vista and how utterly s*** it was and how MS is so outdated compared to Apple. Up to 6 months ago I prefered Apple’s operating system over MS’s XP – just because it was more interactive and i’m a pretty pictures kinda’ guy, but then Microsoft introduced Windows 7.

Let me make a point here, all computers are the same underneath – I can find any PC which has the same hardware as a Mac and will run OS X just fine and at the same speed without having to spend over £800.

What this completely comes down to is brand commitment with Mac fans literally turning into zombies – they seek out any forum up for debate on the subject and talk about how much better their machine is – when they have no idea what they are talkin about – If i bought an Alienware PC for the same price as a Mac I would get twice the computing power and twice the respect.

Twice the respect? Yeah. Ever seen that guy in the coffee shop on his Mac? ever wondered what he is doing on it? well let me take a guess: I bet he doesn’t even have it on and is just staring at the reflection of himself. Vanity is a terrible thing it truly is (no offense to Mac users, naturally)

But I don’t like slating people – in fact I don’t mind Apple – for a start I have an iPod and use iTunes  and have had it 1 and a half years. I bought it for everyday use and loved every minute of it. And so I suppose that MS fanboys (or the majority) do kind of contradict themselves by saying Apple is crap when they have an iPod :/.

Apple is not rubbish nor is Microsoft, both machines have a good capability and having used both extensively I would not rather choose one over another. With its glass screen and premuim materials the Mac is without doubt the better designed product, but with most people growing up with PC’s I just can’t escape the fact that the functionality of a Mac is obsolete to a PC’s (market shares speak for themselves).
