MAINGEAR Titan 17 Can Replace Your Desktop, Might Also Dislocate Your Shoulder

Desktop-replacement notebooks have been around for quite some time. Many of these notebooks packing large, crisp 17 -18 inch screens and more often then not performance on par with their landlocked brethren. Of course, the main reason anyone would truly need such a large desktop is for applications that require tremendous processing power, but with the added benefit of executing such tasks in multiple locations. Battery life does tend to be an issue in these scenarios so just because your system is mobile, does not mean your battery is going to keep you AC free for the whole day.

Enter Maingear and their updated Titan 17 Notebook. Like its namesake, Titan, this monstrosity promises to be capable of replacing some of the highest performing consumer grade desktops on the market. So lets take a look at the specifications that grant this beast such a name-worthy title. It’s 17.3 inch LED-backlit screen has an HD resolution of 1920×1080. Performance wise you can choose between an Intel Core i7-3930K or i7-3960X. The former being the mobile variant and the latter being the desktop version! Both CPU’s feature 6 cores and 12 threads, with clock speeds going between 3.20 and 3.90GHz! You can pack this beast with up to 32GB of DDR3 RAM, and up to 3 HDD or SSD. As for the GPU? You can pick between an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M in SLI with 2GB of GDDR5 or an NVIDIA Quadro 5010M with 4GB of GDDR5 video memory. Other features include a Blu-ray drive, SD card reader, Kensington lock, finger print reader, and a webcam. Wireless connections include Bluetooth and a Bigfoot Network Killer wireless-N card. Connections include HDMI 1.4 port, USB 3.0, E-SATA, Fire Wire, and Display Port. Finally an LED backlit keyboard will let you make full use of the this beast even in the darkest of places! This notebook weighs 12.13 pounds or around 5 1/2 Kilos. Prices start at a totally reasonable  $3,499 dollars.
