Motorola Milestone 2.2 update available, we go hands on.
The Milestone was the first device to launch with Android 2.o and arguably launched Android into the mainstream in a way no other mobile managed, so it’s with a thankful smile that we in the rest of the world (that is: not America) have finally gotten the chance to upgrade our devices to the holy grail that is 2.2, I went ahead and flashed it onto my personal Milestone so you don’t have to, read on to see how it works out.
The flashing process is easy enough if you’re running stock Android (I wasn’t, but XDA developers have some great tutorials) so I’ll keep this down to what’s different from the stock 2.2 experience. I was quite annoyed to find that they’ve gone ahead and pre-loaded plenty of useless applications you can’t remove and they’ve replaced some of the very best stock Android applications (image browser for example) with their own rather bland alternatives for reasons I can’t imagine.
Other than that though it’s all pretty stock, and markedly faster than 2.1. If you’re interested you can either wait around for the OTA update or simply click here and follow the instructions.
