Next-gen wearable displays look great, offer augmented-reality

Hot on the heels of being Universal Soldier’s, the US military has always been keen on the idea of heads up displays wearable in the field, the latest of which is from DARPA, who has given lenscrafters at Vuzix a million to develop wearable goggles that holographically overlay battlefield data on the wearer’s vision, just like a heads up speedometer in high end cars.

The company believes the finished product will be no more than 3mm thick and completely transparent when turned off, and If all goes well, expect it to come available to the average consumer given time. Being able to walk in to your local newspaper store and pick a pair of these coming soon badboys sounds immense, doesn’t it?
