Nintendo Confirms Wii Successor To Launch In 2012
Amongst literally hundreds of rumors regarding the Nintendo Wii successor and even our very own coverage of it possibly being called the Nintendo Wii HD we finally have some official confirmation as to when we can expect to see the Wii 2 on sale. Nintendo have released a three-paragraph-statement saying that a playable model of the device will be demonstrated in the upcoming E3 Expo (which we’re going to!), and that the market ready console will be hitting the market by Autumn next year.
On their E3 Expo showcase, Nintendo said in a statement:
“We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles.”
Now that we have an official (round about) launch date for the Nintendo Wii 2, speculation can begin as to what features it will have. In our recent coverage of a rumor, we stated that the Wii 2 controls could feature a touch screen, and in 2009, we covered a story about Nintendo patenting the word ‘Zii‘.
